Holly Springs considers
fuel surcharge for speeders
HOLLY SPRINGS, Ga. -- The city of Holly Springs is
considering whether to allow police officers to begin
charging speeders a fuel surcharge.
The City Council is expected to decide next week whether to
add the $12 surcharge to existing fines of between $100 and
$200 for speeding tickets. The plan also calls for people
who violate city ordinances to pay the fee.
Holly Springs Police Chief Ken Ball says the surcharge is
the best plan to cope with rising fuel prices and a
declining budget. He says the surcharge should raise
between $35,000 and $45,000 a year.
Holly Springs is about 30 miles north of Atlanta in
Cherokee County.
