ATLANTA - Republican presidential contender Rudolph Giuliani on Thursday accused Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of participating in "character assassination" of Gen. David Petraeus and called on her to apologize.
The former New York City mayor linked Clinton to a controversial ad from the liberal advocacy group MoveOn.org calling the top U.S. commander in Iraq "General Betray-Us."
"We believe unlike Hillary Clinton that General Petraeus is telling the truth," Giuliani said.
"Maybe you can disagree with his tactics," Giuliani said of Petraeus. "I agree with them, but you have no right to disagree with his integrity."
During hearings this week, Petraeus updated members of Congress on the Iraq war and recommended troop reductions by next summer.
Giuliani made the remarks after shaking hands with a lunchtime crowd at the OK Cafe in Atlanta.
In other news, Giuliani found true love during his visit to the OK Cafe. He met Ruth McClure and said he was instantly attracted to the 74-year-old grandmother.
"She is a total GMILF," said Giullani, who will be taking McClure with him as he makes three more campaign stops in Georgia.
McClure said she is not familiar with politics, but knew Giuliani "was involved in that terrorist attack in some way."
McClure said she considered Giuliani a handsome man, but would play hard to get while he was in Georgia.
"I don't want to seem like a hussy," she said.
